Thomas Nordström

Thoughts about the art work:

The cabin or hut is perhaps the most fundamental prehistoric building. Production of charcoal, which was needed for producing iron, took place in the forest and required care around the clock. The workers lived in huts. The title of the artwork is ”Cabin for Iron-Brita”, which refers to the history of Axmar's iron industry. Brita Behm managed the business for 58 years with an iron fist, and told to be a feared person. Strong women have been forgotten by history writing fare too often. Brita may have had a hut that she sometimes retreated to. The Cabin was also, until now, a missing element in the beautiful english park of Axmar. You can see it as a sculpture but it´s also a hotel (just one room). Made of cortén iron. In corporation with Annika Oskarsson.

Describe the process; who, what, why, where, when, how and with what help:

I work quite a lot with public art projects. The context and the task is always unique and usually an interesting challenge. The processes differs a lot but often start with research, many not so good ideas and sketches. After installation on site the process doesn´t stop. New stories and interpretations are added continuously by users and visitors.
